As monsoon took over an unforgiving summer, climate change continued to serve chilling reminders of its presence. The extreme rainfall patterns continued to hound India, with Wayanad in Kerala experiencing deadly landslides recently.

TERI stayed true to its mission of creating a sustainable future by engaging top stakeholders in discourse around climate change and by tapping various mediums of communications to spread awareness about the environmental crisis.

The Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI) 50th year celebrations focused on the theme ‘Pioneering Sustainable Solutions: Goa's Path to 2030 SDGs,’ reflecting the urgency of today’s environmental and climate challenges. The event successfully brought together a diverse array of stakeholders from various sectors to delve into their experiences, integrate new insights, and foster decision-making for a sustainable and equitable future for Goa.

The Union Budget 2024-25 will Steer India Towards a Sustainable Path, feel TERI Experts


The Union Budget 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman included several key initiatives like energy transition pathways, climate finance, improving water resources management, and measures related to irrigation and flood management that will boost India's fight against impacts of climate change, according to experts of TERI.

Voices from the Ground: A Travelogue


The Travelogue describes our journey across the eastern coal belt regions of Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, aptly captures the real-life stories of the stakeholders dependent on coal economy. The narration in this travelogue portrays the ground level challenges and concerns. Such qualitative facets of the coal producing geographies throw light on life, livelihood and other socioeconomic dimensions. Narratives emerging from such evidence speak volumes of coal dependence, which may provide planners and researcher with leads to think ahead.

The photo exhibition "Coal Dependence: Lives in an Extractive Economy", curated as a part of the "Just Transition: Understanding and the Implications of Moving Away from Coal" project supported by the MacArthur Foundation, was held in the Seminar Hall, Ground Floor, TERI, India Habitat Centre on July 25-26, 2024. The exhibition intended to illuminate the lives of communities that are intricately connected to the coal economy, which is at the heart of the just energy transition debate.

Powering MSMEs, Empowering Lives: Sattata Jeevika Vardhanam


The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), with support from the IKEA Foundation, has undertaken a unique multi-year program called “Sustainable energy in Micro-enterprises for Income & Livelihood Enhancement (SMILE).” The main objective of this initiative is to promote the use of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies in micro-enterprise clusters, thereby improving productivity, enhancing the income of entrepreneurs, and ultimately improving their lives and livelihoods.

Capacity Building Programme Targeting School Children on Climate Change, Health, and Hygiene


The "Capacity Building Programme Targeting School Children on Climate Change, Health, and Hygiene across 11 Districts of Uttar Pradesh" is a project run by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) with support from United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). It reached 27,000 students in 162 schools across 137 villages, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 6, and 13 to improve public health and raise community awareness.

Energy Wise Energy Rise (EWER) Phase III: A TERI-BRPL flagship CSR programme


Recognising the need for awareness and education of energy efficiency in this growing energy crisis, BSES introduced the programme Energy Wise Energy Rise (EWER) in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 2018. This educational initiative aims to engage students from classes 6 to 8 in environmental issues. Since its inception, EWER has reached 90,000 students across 300 schools in South and West Delhi, including 30,000 students in 100 schools under its third phase in year 2024.

GREEN Olympiad: Registrations Open
TERI’s flagship initiative ‘GREEN Olympiad 2024’ aims to test the environmental quotient of students and enhance their understanding of issues related to the environment and sustainable development. It is open for students of Std. 4 to 12.

Hack4Agri is a unique project that engages the youth of Karnataka to ideate, innovate, incubate and implement scalable solutions to address post-harvest losses in the agricultural sector.
