Dear Reader,
It was touted to be the COP of implementation, but when the curtains fell on the negotiations at Sharml el-Sheikh for COP27, a takeaway that hogged the headlines was the loss and damage fund. TERI, with its 19-member strong delegation, was an integral part of the global session; and was the organiser and co-organiser of multiple events curated to brainstorm on climate ambitions and global partnerships, localising climate action and evolving long-term strategies on adaptation, and being a significant voice from the Global South on critical areas of concern outlined in the agenda for COP27.
Speaking at our event on ‘Long Term Strategy on Adaptation and Adaptation Readiness in India,’ organised in the India Pavillion, Ms Leena Nandan, Secretary, MoEFCC, underscored the imperative need for finance for adaptation and pointed out that developing a global baseline to enhance transparency and investor confidence is a crucial measure in enhancing adaptation readiness. Two of TERI’s policy briefs on ‘Internationalizing Lifestyles for Environment: Messages for G20’ and Oceans-Climate Interface: Implications for Global Commons based Climate Action produced as a part of the Act4Earth intitiaves were launched at the session.
From expert inputs on the Technical Session on Global Stocktake, a series of events at the Business Pavillion rallying support and collaboration from the private sector, to a UNFCCC side event seeking climate action through innovation, implementation and inclusive multi-level governance, TERI echoed the need for urgent, immediate, and thoroughly planned pathways to tackle climate change.
