  President of the European Commission HE Ursula von der Leyen opened her India trip with a visit to TERI Gram. At TERI’s field station, she discussed with young scholars and students the need for a seismic shift towards sustainable living, and also visited the TERI-Deakin Nano-Biotechnology Centre. The visit of the European Union dignitary was the high point of TERI’s calendar in April.

LeadIT Workshops

TERI with the LeadIT Secretariat, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Strategic Partnership for the Implementation of Paris Agreement project hosted two road mapping workshops in New Delhi to construct realistic decarbonisation pathways for hard-to-abate sectors- cement and steel.

Workshop on Accelerating Decarbonisation for India's Cement Sector

The workshop presented an overview of the sustainability of cement industries in India. Participants deliberated on availability and costs involved in transitioning to greener and cleaner cement production technologies. They also discussed the policy interventions needed to smoothen the process.

Workshop on Accelerating Decarbonisation for India's Steel Sector

The workshop on the steel sector underscored the state of sustainability of iron and steel industries in India. Stakeholders discussed the availability and costs of technologies necessary for transition, and presented TERI’s report on ‘Low-carbon Roadmap for Indian Steel Sector’.

TERI Conducts Carbon Stock Assessment Fieldwork in Mehsana, Gujarat
TERI, in collaboration with the Department of Forests, Gujarat, conducted the carbon stock assessment for 31 sample plots in the Mehsana district to calculate the total CO2 equivalent as per the methodology given in IPCC GPG and FSI. The objective was to generate carbon credits, incentives from which will be distributed amongst the farmers of Gujarat serving as an additional income for them.

Readiness and Capacity Needs Assessment for Electric Vehicle Adoption in Indian Cities
Indian cities have tremendous potential to accelerate EV adoption through innovation and efficient decentralized mechanisms. However, the impact of city-level actions has been relatively under-explored. A study from TERI analysed the current status and ranked the readiness of Indian cities for EV planning and adoption, and identified the capacities and roadblocks for future EV planning and deployment.

The GRIHA Trophy at NASA
GRIHA Council hosted a showcase for the winning entries of The GRIHA Trophy at the 64th Annual NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) Convention on April 22. The trophy aims to promote green buildings and sensitize students towards designing sustainable buildings.
