PANEL DISCUSSION ON ‘THERMAL COMFORT IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING’  
 
TERI, in association with SHEETAL Alliance organized a half day panel discussion on 20th June, 2022 at Hotel Claridges to address the existing challenges for mainstreaming thermal comfort in affordable housing with an overarching framework of built environment.

The session was moderated by Mr R.R. Rashmi, Distinguished Fellow, TERI with an eminent line of expert panel which included Mr Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary (HFA), MoHUA, Mr Abhas Jha , Practice Manager ,CC&DRM South Asia, Dr Vishal Garg, University Chair Professor, Plaksha University, Mohali, Mr P.N.   CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON
SCALING UP HEALTH-ENERGY NEXUS IN THE STATE OF PUNJAB
 
 

The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) in association with BMZ funded GIZ IGEN Access program conducted the Capacity Building Workshop on Scaling up Health -Energy Nexus in the state of Punjab - Integration of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the Healthcare Sector for staff and officials of health and energy department on 2nd June at Hometel, Chandigarh. The half-day workshop was organized with the technical support of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

Ms Sonali Giri, IAS, Chief Executive PEDA was the Chief Guest of the program. She shared her experience about the importance and need for energy conservation in hospitals and a focused approach toward the implementation of energy efficiency.

 
 
  GREENOVATION: INTERNATIONAL GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY EXPO 2022
 
 
Mahindra-TERI Centre of Excellence (MTCoE) for Sustainable Habitats showcased its material testing and research facility at the ‘Greenovation- International Green Building Technology Expo 2022’ on 4th-6th June 2022, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in collaboration with the GRIHA Council. The World Environment Expo (WEE) 2022, World Environment Conference (WEC) 2022 and Green India Awards 2022 are some concurrent events where MTCoE exhibited its presence to various stakeholders like Architects, Green Building Professionals, Government agencies, Technology Providers, Policy makers, Manufacturers in the building industry.
 
  SUPPORTING PUBLIC POLICY COHERENCE
 
In collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and PDD-Ladakh, TERI and ECBC Cell Ladakh conducted a half-day online training programme on awareness of the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and the Eco-Niwas Samhita (ENS) for building sector stakeholders, such as administrators, government officials, architects, engineers, developers, builders, municipal officials, and others on 9th April 2022 and 7th May 2022, respectively. Fifty-one individuals from various organisations were trained during the training programme.

On the 13th of April 2022, a one-day online workshop/training programme on Daylight Simulation was held, with 32 participants from diverse organisation. On the 19th and 20th of April 2022 and the 13th and 14th of May 2022, a two-day online workshop/training programme on Energy Simulation was held. A total of 37 people from various organisations, including the Municipal Committee Kargil, SVD, the Public Health Department Kargil, the I&FC Division Kargil, the Kargil Development Authority, KREDA, and the Rural Development Department Kargil, attended the training event.
 
  VISIT BY OFFICIALS TO MTCoE LAB
 
Various dignitaries along with their teams visited the MTCoE lab to understand the on-going testing of opaque and transparent building material’s thermal properties in the lab using state-of the-art equipment and technologies. TERI team provided a walk-through tour of the CoE along with demonstration and also acquainted with the various sustainability principles and design strategies espoused by the CoE building.

But now, there is an urgent need for the township model to be rediscovered with a growing focus on water conservation and zero-wastewater discharge. Residential housing forms one of the most significant parts of the real estate sector in India. It contributes to 80% of the sector, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030. It is estimated that around 10 million people migrate to cities every year in search of better employment opportunities.
