The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) steps into the New Year making its presence felt at global platforms such as the World Economic Forum at Davos, and by gearing up for the biggest event on its calendar – The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS).

World Sustainable Development Summit 2023


The 22nd edition of TERI’s annual flagship event- The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS)—will be held from February 22-24, 2023 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Summit deliberations will focus on the umbrella theme: Mainstreaming Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience for Collective Action. It will also see the launch of the WSDS 2023 ‘Act4Earth Manifesto’- a document outlining headline messages from different sessions organised as part of the Summit.

The Summit aims to serve as a platform for leaders and climate experts around the world to steer conversations on sustainable development and strengthen climate action. The Summit will have eminent dignitaries such as Dr Bharrat Jagdeo; Vice President, Guyana, Mr Ovais Sarmad, Deputy Executive Secretary, UNFCCC; Dr Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director, Centre for Sustainable Development, Columbia University; Ms Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and UN SRSG, Sustainable Energy for All; Dr Vinod B. Mathur, the UN IPBES Bureau member; Ms Helen Clarkson, CEO Climate Group, amongst others, deliberating on the urgent need to raise ambition and mainstream sustainable development.

India assumed the G20 Presidency from Indonesia in December 2022. As a key intergovernmental forum that aims to seamlessly bring together 20 of the world’s developed as well as developing economies, the G20 plays a critical part in global economic governance. Over time, its ambit has expanded to include climate change, sustainable development, energy, trade, health and agriculture.

TERI is engaged with multiple working groups across the three workstreams, including the G20 Sherpa Track, and G20 Engagement Groups, particularly Think20.

Circular Economy: The Path to a Sustainable Lifestyle


TERI along with the Department of Commerce, Government of India, and Invest India, organised a fireside chat at World Economic Forum on 'Circular Economy: The Path to a Sustainable Lifestyle' which saw the participation of Ms Smriti Irani, Union Minister, Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Mr Parameswaran Iyer, CEO, NITI Aayog along with Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, and policymakers and leaders of global businesses discussed sustainable lifestyle.

  The path to Net Zero for India: The Role of Public Private Partnership

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, TERI, along with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Invest India, organised a fireside chat on ‘The path to Net Zero for India: The Role of Public Private Partnership’ to explore innovative technologies and business models for achieving India’s Net Zero target.

  TERI Signs MoU with Guyana companies


Continuing TERI’s long association with Guyana in implementing Renewable Energy projects, Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, signed an MoU on January 12 in the presence of Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana with representatives from Durable Wood Products (DWP) Inc. and EMC Energy Inc., Guyana.

The MoU between the three parties agrees to implement 1.5 Mega Watt wood waste-based power generation plant through the gasification route and to supply power to DWP.

  Norwegian Parliamentary delegation at Gwal Pahari

A 17-member Norwegian Parliamentary delegation led by Ms Marianne S. Næss, Chair, Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment, Norway, and representatives from the Norwegian Embassy in India visited TERI's field campus in Gwal Pahari on January 17, and discussed the organisation’s work in the areas of energy, water, and environmental protection with a TERI team led by Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI.

Building a Resilient Decarbonized Society in India through Environmental Infrastructure and Technology


As part of the India-Japan Environment Week, TERI co-hosted an event on “Building a Resilient Decarbonized Society in India through Environmental Infrastructure and Technology", which was inaugurated by Mr Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and attended by Mr Akihiro Nishimura, Minister, Ministry of the Environment, Japan. The event saw participants from India and Japan deliberate on the challenges and necessary measures needed to further collaboration among central and local governments and the private sector to build a resilient decarbonized society in India.

  The Future of Energy: Energy Transition, New Energy Solutions and Climate Change


TERI, along with the High Commission of Canada in India, and the University of Alberta, organized a workshop to demonstrate India and Canada’s leadership in the areas of energy transition, new energy solutions, and climate change, and the advanced work being done by higher education institutions and industry in these fields.
