The last TERI newsletter of 2023 captures the organization’s milestones in an action-packed month, where it hosted events at COP28, organized workshops, and launched policy briefs. Here is December at TERI in a nutshell.

As the year winds down, TERI can proudly proclaim its role in promoting sustainable development goals and best environmental practices. TERI’s engagement in several projects, initiatives, deliberations, and research work in 2023 holds the promise of going a long way in contributing to a greener planet. Entering the 50th year of its establishment, TERI has renewed its commitment to combat the impacts of climate change, finding innovative solutions, and driving policies toward building a climate-resilient earth.

TERI Hosts COP28 Panel Discussion: Insights from IPCC's AR6 Report and Industry Leaders' Perspectives on Climate Action


COP28 witnessed enthusiastic participation from TERI researchers. The institute organized nine events in Dubai, including a panel discussion with IPCC chairman Professor Jim Skea and leading Indian business leaders on the sidelines of COP28 UAE.

TERI's Inaugural Open House Session Addresses Affordable Housing and Thermal Comfort


TERI hosted its Inaugural Open House Session at its headquarters in New Delhi, where a diverse group of experts from government, academia, industry, NGOs, and stakeholders convened. This session signifies the commencement of a series of events leading up to the celebration of TERI's 50th year in the sustainability sector in 2023. The roundtable discussion organized by the Sustainable Buildings Division focused on the critical issue of aligning affordable housing schemes with the adoption of thermal comfort and energy & resource efficiency.

Internationalizing Lifestyles For Sustainable Development
Mainstream frameworks on sustainable consumption and production fail to holistically capture downstream segments of resource consumption and production systems, especially regarding lifestyle choices, including its links to upstream and midstream components.

This policy brief seeks to develop composite metrics on consumption for G20 countries after which it discusses ways to further internationalize sustainable lifestyles.

Advancing Environmental and Climate Goals Through a Multidimensional Model of Green Budgeting
While environmental regulation is the principal responsibility of environmental ministries, their locus standi in terms of implementation is limited, as much of the implementation lies with other line ministries/departments and public agencies. Hence, it is essential that ‘environment’ is mainstreamed across ministries, departments, and sectors.

Financing Decarbonization of the Secondary Steel Sector in India
The report elaborates on the challenges faced by the Indian secondary steel sector in accessing finance for decarbonization technologies and identifies ways in which an enabling environment can be developed to allow international finance to be channelled into facilitating technological upgradation for the sector. The study also elaborates on the potential of several low-carbon transition technologies and pathways for the sector, alongside their financial requirements.

Dr Dhawan Conferred 'Woman in Agriculture Award 2023'


Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, was honoured with 'Woman in Agriculture Award 2023' by Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, Sri Arjun Munda, in 14th Agriculture Leadership Conclave 2023 at New Delhi.

This prestigious award recognizes Dr Dhawan's outstanding work in different roles spanned over three decades. The awards were organised by Agriculture Today Group. These awards are given annually to encourage the efforts that have made significant contributions in agriculture, livestock, social and rural development, and positively impacted the lives of millions of farmers.
