TERI SIGNS AN MOU WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES (UNSW) |

TERI and University of New South Wales (UNSW) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 8 May 2024, in Sydney, Australia to extend and strengthen scientific exchange and cooperation. The renewed agreement will seed deeper partnerships in research, education, and technology development, as discussed between TERI and UNSW. The significant areas of the shared research interest include digitalization of energy systems, decentralization of energy supplies, and cross-sectoral issues that energy is at the heart of, including agriculture, transport, industry, and regional development.

TERI’S CELEBRATES ITS GOLDEN JUBILEE |

TERI celebrated its 50th anniversary with a spectacular event, commemorating five decades of leadership in sustainable development, environmental research, and resource management. The occasion highlighted TERI's significant contributions and laid the foundation for future advancements. Throughout the day, the programme presentations emphasized TERI's holistic approach to sustainability. A notable highlight was the launch of the a publication Creating Impacts, Transforming Lives: Success Stories from TERI (available here), showcasing inspiring narratives.
One of the standout features in the book is the Sustainable Buildings Division’s pioneering work at the Mahindra-TERI Centre of Excellence: Building the Green Way.
Mr Sanjay Seth, Senior Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Programme at TERI, delivered a compelling session. His presentation underscored the programme’s potential to foster collaboration across diverse sectors, paving the way for a sustainable, low-carbon future.

SIMPLIFYING SUSTAINABILITY: TERI’S RADIO CAMPAIGN WITH 92.7 BIG FM |

This initiative is aimed to simplify sustainable practices for everyday implementation. Recognizing the challenge people face in grasping sustainability, the campaign breaks down complex environmental concepts into actionable steps. TERI experts covered themes such as air quality, energy conservation, climate change, sustainable habitats, and agriculture. Mr Sanjay Seth addressed heat stress mitigation and sustainability in the built environment, including green buildings, sustainable mobility, and eco-conscious lifestyles. The show was aired on 12 June 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM with RJ Khurafati Nitin.

With extensive and rapid urbanization, the need for sustainable infrastructure has become more pronounced than ever. The Sustainable Infrastructure Programme aims to create innovative solutions for low-environmental impact infrastructure development by facilitating and integrating the principles of smart, sustainable, and resilient buildings, inclusive cities and robust transport systems to proliferate action-oriented outcomes in the built environment.

ROUNDTABLE MEETING CONDUCTED BETWEEN TERI, GRIHA COUNCIL, UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES (UNSW) AND PAPAUA NEW GUINEA |

A roundtable meeting was held on 25 April 2024 at TERI’s office with a delegation from UNSW, Sydney, Australia and PNG University of Technology, Papua New Guinea, to discuss and share ideas on probable area of collaboration that aligns the shared synergies of all organizations.
TERI, GRIHA Council, and UNSW have fostered strong long-standing partnerships, based on various areas of sustainable development, climate change mitigation, environment with the goal of making a positive impact on environment and society.

MTCOE DAYLIGHT PLUGIN TOOL DEMONSTRATION FOR MAHINDRA LIFESPACES |

On June 24 2024 researchers at Sustainable Buildings Division at TERI conducted an online demonstration of the new MTCoE daylight plugin, launched on 8 February 2024 at WSDS. This session held under the MTCoE initiative for the Mahindra Lifespaces team, emphasized the importance, benefits of daylighting, and the plugin's relevance in India. The Demonstration session introduced the participants with Rhinoceros and Grasshopper basics, plugin installation and a case study demonstration using the conventional plugin and the MTCoE plugin.
The MTCoE plugin generates comprehensive daylighting metrics and reflects the actual sky conditions of North India, specifically the NCR, New Delhi. Simulations showed MTCoE plugin results closely match real-sky conditions, validated by MTCoE lab data. Demonstration session was delivered by Global Evolutionary Energy Design (GEED) team.

SUPPORTING PUBLIC POLICY COHERENCE IN LADAKH |

In collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), TERI, and ECBC Cell Ladakh, training programmes were conducted in Leh, Nubra, and Kargil to raise awareness about the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and the Eco-Niwas Samhita (ENS).
In Leh, two training programmes were held recently: a two-day session on 'Energy Simulation for Compliance' from 28 to 29 May 2024, and a one-day session covering 'ECBC and ENS Awareness' and 'HVAC Awareness' on 12–13 June 2024.
Additionally, in Nubra, a two-day training programme on 'Energy Simulation for Compliance' took place on 31 May–1 June 2024. In Kargil, a two-day training programme on 'ECBC Rules and Compliance Procedure' was conducted on 3–4 June 2024, followed by a one-day training programme on 'Daylight Simulation' on 15 June 2024.
These sessions were attended by participants from government departments in Nubra, Leh, and Kargil.

Various dignitaries along with their teams visited the Mahindra TERI Centre of Excellence (MTCoE) Lab to understand the on-going testing of opaque and transparent construction materials utilizing cutting-edge tools and technology. TERI team provided a walkthrough tour of the CoE along with a demonstration that made visitors acquainted with the various sustainability principles and design strategies espoused by the CoE building.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS TEAM ATTENDS THE TERI’S DIVISIONAL RETREAT |

The divisional retreat for the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme (SIP) was convened at Winnies Resort in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, from 30 April to 2 May 2024. Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, joined the team members from SIP during this event. The retreat featured detailed divisional presentations, followed by focused brainstorming sessions.
