Sustainable site planning 63
points to remember
# Add manufacturer’s certificate to demonstrate the perviousness of the materials being used as
pervious paving.
# While calculating the pervious paving area, mention only the effective softscape area in the
paving. For example, in grass pavers, the area considered under pervious paving would only be
the net area covered by grass in the paving. The rest will be considered as impervious, since it is
concrete.
Examples from projects registered for GRIHA.
Figure 5 Example of reduced paved surfaces in a GRIHA compliant project
The image shows the site plan of a GRIHA-compliant project. The hard paved area has been
minimized. The roads and pavements have been minimized and circulation optimized, which helps
in minimization of the total hard paved surface on site. The remainder site was landscaped and
covered with trees to minimize UHIE.
