If smoking is allowed within the building premises
For air-conditioned areas
# Designate specific areas as smoking zones and locate them on the building periphery. Separate
these areas from the surrounding non-smoking areas by enclosing them with full height
impermeable internal partitions.
# Ensure that the designated smoking area is totally independent of the non-smoking areas in
the building.
# Ensure that the smoking zone is exhausted directly to the outdoors so that there is no
recirculation of the tobacco smoke air to the non-smoking zone of the building.
# Ensure that the smoking zone is operating on separate ventilation system with higher
ventilation rates than the non-smoking areas. The smoking zone should be designed for at
least 60 cfm per person.
# The smoking zone should operate at a negative pressure in comparison to the surrounding
non-smoking areas.
For non-conditioned spaces
# Designate specific areas as smoking zones and locate them on the building periphery. Separate
these areas from the surrounding non-smoking areas by enclosing them with full height
impermeable internal partitions.
# Ensure that the designated smoking zone is properly ventilated with the appropriate location
of the air inlets/outlets.
# If the designated smoking zone is mechanically ventilated, it should be designed for not less
than 30 ACH (air changes per hour).
# Ensure that the smoking zone is properly ventilated and at a minimum, exhausted directly to
the outdoors, so that there is no recirculation of the tobacco smoke air to the non-smoking
zone of the building.
# Separate smoking areas from the surrounding non-smoking areas by enclosing them with full
height impermeable internal partitions.

This is a mandatory criterion with 1 point and all the projects have to meet the requirements of this
criterion in order to be eligible for GRIHA rating. All the required documentation can be uploaded

If the company has imposed a ban on smoking within the building premises, the policy document
file should be uploaded using the online evaluation tool.
