Hon'ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated World Sustainable Development Summit 2019
 
The 2019 edition of TERI's flagship summit World Sustainable Development Summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. Delivering the address, the Vice President spoke about the many facets of sustainable development like inclusive development, sustainable mobility and urbanisation, energy security, waste management and green innovation. "We need nature and culture for a better future," he said. Speaking about the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change collaborating with TERI to set up a Resource Efficiency Cell, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, "...it is vital to institute the best in resource efficiency as an effort toward decoupling economic growth and human wellbeing from ever increasing consumption of natural resources and the resulting impacts. The Cell will enable inter-ministerial and inter-departmental synergy in promoting material resource efficiency in India."

Accepting the Sustainable Development Leadership Award 2019, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Fiji Frank Bainimarama, in a video message, spoke about the importance of having a forum like WSDS that encourages the voices of smaller nations fighting climate change to be heard.

 
 
Energy Transitions Commission India's key findings on accelerating renewables transition
The Energy Transitions Commission India released three detailed technical reports on how India can grow the share of renewables in its electricity system by 2030 at WSDS 2019. The three titles are as follows: Exploring electricity supply-mix scenarios to 2030, Analysing and projecting Indian electricity demand to 2030, and Developing a roadmap to a flexible, low‐carbon Indian electricity system: interim findings.
