Agriculture Climate Energy Environment Habitat Health & Nutrition Resources   Right to clean environment has emerged as a new human right in India: Dr Ajay Mathur   At the silver jubilee lecture of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, on 10 September, Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI, said in a public lecture that right to clean environment has emerged as a new human right in India. He urged the NHRC to initiate dialogue on this to help build a common understanding. Kailash Satyarthi, Noble Peace Laureate, attended the event as chief guest and and Prakash Singh, former Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh was the guest of honour. In 2016, the whole of South-Asia was reeling under persistent extreme heat conditions, and this is now an annual affair. How do we then protect our growing urban population from this looming risk? This video sheds light on research on indoor heat stress that was carried out in New Delhi as part of the HI-AWARE programme, and identifies measures across multiple scales to mitigate the adverse impacts of heat stress.     India is the only country with zero capital subsidy programme for electric vehicles: Saurabh Kumar, MD, EESL Watch the second video in the series Conversations@TERI, where Saurabh Kumar, MD, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd talks about the emerging success story of electric vehicles, his own experience of driving one, and their inter linkages with achieving the national and thereby global target of reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. As the head of the implementing body for LED programme, and now tasked with introducing EVs at a large scale, he is confident that the pay-as-you-save model of LEDs can lead to success for EVs as well.       'Infusion of capital required to accelerate transition to renewable energy in India'   A transition to renewable energy is taking place in India and for it to be accelerated, there has to be an infusion of capital, which requires reducing risks, transaction costs and enabling large scale replication. These were some of the points discussed by experts at a special session on ‘Energy Transitions: Reconciling Competing Imperatives of Development and Environmental Sustainability’ chaired by Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI, and co-chair, Energy Transitions Commission (ETC).
