DEWATS applications are based on four basic treatment modules, which are combined according
to specific requirements. This includes the following post-treatment methods of reed-bed system and
polishing ponds.
# Preliminary treatment, which includes pre-treatment and sedimentation in settlement tank,
imhoff tank or septic tank.
# Secondary anaerobic treatment in baffled reactors
# Tertiary aerobic/anaerobic treatment in reed bed system
# Aerobic treatment in ponds

2. Soil biotechnology
In soil biotechnology (SBT), soil is primarily used as a medium for treating the wastewater. It is a
synthesis process, which harnesses the energy, carbon, and other elements of the waste and converts
them to precious ‘bio energy’ products like vegetation, energy rich soil, complete biofertilizer, and
water. In this system, wastewater is pumped or sprayed on top of the sand bed. The bed consists
of specially cultured soil media, consisting of a layer of boulders, pebbles, and sand. The filtering
