B. Vertical shading devices
Vertical devices consist of louver blades or projecting fins in a vertical position. Narrow blades with
close spacing may give the same shadow angle as broader blades with wider spacing. These types
of device are most effective when the sun is on one side of the elevation, such as the eastern or
western elevation.

C. Egg crate devices (combination of horizontal and vertical)
These are combinations of horizontal and vertical elements. The many types of grille blocks and
decorative screens may fall in this category. These can be effective for any orientation depending
on detail dimensions.
