combustion. Depending on the manner in which air or oxygen is introduced in a gasifier, they are
classified as downdraft, updraft, and crossdraft.
Small gasification plants combined with gas engine systems can be used for driving small
generators to provide electrical energy for lighting, and other energy requirements in buildings.
For remote areas where enough firewood is available, small-scale biomass gasifier can be a suitable
option for energy supply.

Outlined below is the methodology to be followed for installing a biomass gasifier system.
1. System capacity: Based on the building’s power requirement, calculate the capacity of
biomass gasifier to be installed.
2. Establish biomass linkages: Explore sources of continuous supply of biomass required for
the gasifier. If required, enter into a long-term agreement with any agency for continuous
supply of required biomass.
3. Manufacturer: Identify manufacturers who can supply the system. Review specifications of
different systems from available manufacturers and select a suitable system.
4. Operation and maintenance: A biomass gasifier system requires regular operation
and maintenance. So, a system for the same should be established immediately after
installation.
