18.3.3 rated capacity of proposed renewable energy system meets annual energy
requirements of equal to or more than 10% of internal lighting consumption or its
equivalent in the building (2 points), as per all compliance clauses.
18.3.4 rated capacity of proposed renewable energy meets annual energy requirements of
equal to or more than 20% of internal lighting consumption or its equivalent in the
building, as per all compliance clauses (3 points).
18.3.5 rated capacity of proposed renewable energy system meets annual energy
requirements of equal to or more than 30% of internal lighting consumption or its
equivalent in the building, as per all compliance clauses (4 points).
Note: lighting design shall be based on minimum requirements as per nbC-2005 (biS- 2005d) (Criterion 13.1.5)
Evaluation procedure
Appraisal 18.3.1
rated capacity of proposed renewable energy system is equal to or more than 1% of internal lighting
and space-conditioning connected loads or its equivalent in the building (1 point–mandatory), as
per all compliance clauses.
Required documentation
1) detailed listing of connected load for internal lighting and space conditioning in the
prescribed format.
2) design calculations for renewable energy system sizing.
3) Cut sheets of renewable energy system showing its rated capacity.
4) drawings in Cad format to show location of renewable energy systems.
Review checklist
1) Check the total of connected load for internal lighting and space conditioning and see
whether the rated capacity of proposed renewable energy system is equal to or more than
1% of this load.
2) Check if the capacity of the back-up system has been subtracted from the capacity of the
proposed renewable energy system before checking whether it is equal to or more than 1%
off the total of connected load for internal lighting and space conditioning.
3) Cross check the capacity of the proposed renewable energy plant from the manufacturer’s
specifications.
Possible errors
1) while calculating the renewable energy system capacity for this criterion, capacity of solar
energy system powering the outdoor lighting fixtures as per the requirement of griha
criterion 6 may be included. ensure that the capacity of solar energy system powering the
outdoor lighting fixtures is excluded from the calculation.
2) the total connected load for internal lighting and space conditioning; and the internal
lighting energy consumption value may differ from the values mentioned in the
documentation of criterion 14.
3) while calculating the energy consumption of the internal lighting, ballast losses may not
have been considered. the internal lighting energy consumption value should be verified
from the documentation of criterion 14.
