Step 5: Decide the lamp source: It is an important consideration to define lamp sources in a
particular room. The lamp selection is followed by luminaire selection and is purely based
on the lamp efficacy and CRI value. There are lamps that can deliver all the above qualities
with comparatively lesser consumption of electricity as compared to other (technologically
older) types. Reduction in energy consumption is possible with proper choice of lighting
fixtures and lamp types. Lighting output and wattage should be considered before choosing
the lamps.


Step 6: Identify the reflectance of the space: The room/space reflectance has been selected depending
upon the colour of the surface. The colour reflectance has been considered as per SP41. The
reflectances of ceiling, wall, and floor should be 0.8, 0.5, and 0.2 respectively.
