c. Shading analysis for western façade
As the western façade gets low angle sun with less than 30º VSA, it is recommended to provide a
vertical screening over the glazed façade such as vertical shading elements or jaalis or green wall,
tree plantation along the western façade, and so on.
Shading analysis for courtyard
Direct solar radiation is maximum on a horizontal surface. So, in order to avoid excess radiation
inside the courtyard and to make the space more habitable for the office staff, it is recommended
to provide space frame with sunscreen panels over the cut-out or at roof level. The sunscreen
panels should be angled in such a way that they can cut sunlight during summer and allow it
during winter.

Step 4: Daylight analysis
Daylight simulation has been done for various spaces of the office building as per the daylight
guidelines using Radiance software. Radiance is a set of programmes for analysis and visualization
of daylighting in design. Input files specify the scene geometry, materials, time, date, and sky
conditions. Simulation results may be displayed as colour images, numerical values, and contour
plots.
Simulation condition
# Overcast sky condition (outside lux level is 8500)
# Visible light transmittance of glass = 60%
# Required daylight at centre of daylight zone = 152 lux for office spaces
