26.2.1 Cut sheets, specification sheets, and commercial brochures of the low voC emission
finishes or products used.
26.2.2 a certificate from the manufacturer for each of the category as applicable to the
applicant, clearly stating that the materials used have no voC or low voC (grams/litre),
as specified in table 26.1.
26.2.3 the bill for the quantity for each of the categories, as applicable, clearly demonstrating
that 100% of all the interior paints, sealants, adhesives, and composite wood/ agri-fibre
products meet the mentioned criteria.

26.3 Appraisal (maximum points – 3)
26.3.1 Zero/low VOC paints: zero/low voC paints for 100% of all paint used in the interior of the
building (1 point), as per clauses 26.2.1, 26.2.2, and 26.2.3.
26.3.2 Low-VOC sealants and adhesives: 100% of all the sealants and adhesives used are water
based rather than solvent based/ low solvent content (1 point), as per clauses 26.2.1,
26.2.2, and 26.2.3.
26.3.3 100% of composite wood products with no urea-formaldehyde resins (1 point), as per
clauses 26.2.1, 26.2.2, and 26.2.3.


Evaluation Procedure

Appraisal 26.3.1

zero/low voC paints: zero/low voC paints for 100% of all paint used in the interior of the building
(1 points), as per clauses 26.2.1, 26.2.2, and 26.2.3.
Required documentation

1. Specification sheets, cut sheets/brochures of the paints used in building interiors.
2. a test certificate clearly demonstrating the zero/low-voC content of the paints.
3. a copy of the bill of quantities showing the purchase of zero/low-voC paints.

Review checklist

1. Check the test results to ensure that the voC content of the specified paint is well within the
limits specified by griha.
2. Check for paints to be water-based acrylics instead of solvent-based oil paints.
3. Check the boq to ensure that the specific paint purchased is the same as the paint tested.

Possible errors
1. the test may not have been conducted by an independent laboratory.
2. the necessary signatures might be missing from the documents.
3. the paint that has been tested and for which the test certificate has been provided might
be different from the paint used in the building as specified in the boq.

Point allocation
one point to be awarded to the project if all 100% of the paints used in building interiors comply
with the voC limits mentioned in griha.
