Point allocation
one point to be awarded to the project if 15%–30% of oPC is replaced with fly ash by weight.
one additional point to be awarded to the project if more than 30% of oPC is replaced with fly ash
by weight.
Appraisal 15.3.2
minimum 40% utilization of fly ash by volume of materials, for 100% load bearing and non-load
bearing walls, as per clause 15.2.2 – 2 points.
Required documentation
1. Calculations demonstrating use of fly ash in building blocks.
2. manufacturer brochure, clearly stating the use of fly ash in manufacture of building blocks
and the percentage composition of fly ash in the block by volume of materials.
3. a test certificate from an independent laboratory for demonstrating compliance with the
necessary strength requirements as per biS.
4. Certificate from the structural consultant in case additional fly ash is added to the design
mix in order to achieve more percentage replacement of fly ash. the boq/purchase order
of the additional fly ash should be attached as well.
Review checklist
1. Check that the percentage of fly ash as per the manufacture certificate and that used in the
calculations, should be same.
2. Check the calculations for accuracy.
3. Check the design mix of the building blocks and review the purchase order for additional
fly ash.
Possible errors
1. the quantities of fly ash used in the calculations might not correspond with the manufacture
certificate and the purchase order.
2. the volume and the dimensions of the bricks/blocks might be different in the calculations
and the manufacturer certificate.
Point allocation
two points to be awarded if the volume of fly ash is equivalent to or more than 40% of the total
volume of materials used in the building blocks.
