Evaluation procedure 75

Required documentation
1. Cut-sheets of materials, test certificates/embodied energy data of the materials/
technologies used.
2. boq, along with calculations, demonstrating reduction in material consumption/use of low
energy materials.
3. floor plans and other relevant drawings highlighting the areas where aforementioned
technologies/materials have been used along with dimensions and other relevant
specifications.
4. a narrative with description and photographs of these materials/technologies used in the
building.

Review checklist
1. Check the calculations for accuracy. Check the calculations to ensure that the reduction has
been more than 5%.
2. Check the sources of embodied energy data.
3. Check the material reduction figures through the use of mentioned technologies.
4. Check the location of materials/technologies on the floor plans with respect to the
corresponding photographs in the narrative.
5. Check the boq to verify the purchase of the mentioned technology/material.
Possible errors

1. the embodied energy data used might not be scientifically reviewed.
2. the specification sheets/manufacturer brochure might not be detailed enough. they might
not accurately mention the material savings.
3. the base case calculations might not have considered 100% of the structural system (for
appraisal 16.3.1) or 100% of the non structural system ( appraisal 16.3.2).
4. Check the boq for the quantity of materials used.
Point allocation

two points to be awarded if the project is able to demonstrate at least a 5% reduction in embodied
energy for 100% of the building structure.

two points to be awarded if the project is able to demonstrate at least a 5% reduction in embodied
energy for 100% of the building block work.
