Step 3: Shading analysis
The sun path analysis has been done on the critical façades (south, east, and west) to find out the
critical sun angles (horizontal shadow angle and vertical shadow angle), respectively, and adequate
shading devices have been recommended as per the critical shadow angles.
a. Shading analysis for southern façade
As per the sun path analysis, the critical sun angle is the vertical shadow angle (VSA) of 70º on
a vertical plane normal to the elevation. Thus, for the given window size and critical sun angle, a
horizontal shading device of a minimum depth of 600 mm is required.
